2010 Spring Essentials

GUEST SERVICES

  • COVETING: A Salvatore Ferragamo Fiammetta tote bag, along with the perfect pair of nude heels that match my caramel skin tone.
  • CRAVING: Room temperature Asiago cheese, dark chocolate and anything gourmet . . . Pusateri's (and the gym!) here I come.
  • DROOLING: Andy Thê-Anh’s entire collection plus sky high Christian Louboutin heels. I definitely can’t do the shoes, but I can certainly fantasize . . .
  • FASHION PHILOSOPHY: Understand your body shape and proportions so you can choose the best clothing to complement it.
  • IN MY PURSE: Ice Breakers mints, miscellaneous receipts, lip gloss and lip balm. I can’t go anywhere far without my lip balm; I have three in my purse as a precaution . . .
  • ON REPEAT: 80s music, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People (audio book) and the super talented Alicia Keys.
  • ZODIAC: Cancer. I’m born on the same day as Meryl Streep. Deep down I know I’m channeling some of her character’s (Miranda Priestly) fierceness from The Devil Wears Prada. Not sure when it will be revealed, but when it does watch out!

For The Love Of Wine

I am not ashamed to admit I’m a wino. I get so excited about experimenting with new wines . . . red, white and an occasional rosé from different countries and price points (I’m constantly on the lookout for a great wine under $12).

For some time, my go-to white wine has been an $11.95 Riesling called Deinhard Green Label. Causing my many trips to the LCBO—this German vino has been one of my household staples. During dinner, leisurely afternoons (on weekends of course) and barbecues; sipped solo or with everything, life improves dramatically. Gosh, I wish they sold them in cases . . .

Charmed

I discovered the Pandora jewellery line in Cupido. Renowned for its twist on the charm bracelet—I instantly fancied one. These bracelets are handmade out of leather, silver or gold . . . if you so desire (trust me you will), they can be personalized with charms, made of precious and semi-precious stones.

It’s really a collection process of charms to add character to the bracelet . . . they can be placed and rearranged for a new look when the mood strikes. Each charm has a different meaning or expression that can represent who you are and what you’re feeling at the moment. Charming, isn’t it?

No Books, No Cry

You’re studious, a thinker and love to gain more knowledge; that’s why you love books. However, you’re starting to wonder about the price of knowledge . . . carrying around all those books is starting to cause you bodily harm!

Cry no more—the Kobo e-reader has arrived at Chapters. The electronic device (not to be mistaken for a mini computer—it actually looks like ink on paper) is about the size and weight of one small paperback book. It can easily fit into your purses, bags and knapsacks AND . . . it can hold at least 1,000 titles (add an SD card reader and it can store up to 4,000 titles). Not bad at all.

Your love of books no longer has to be a back-breaking, shoulder-aching experience; the Kobo e-reader is a wise solution, lightening your load while you wait for your doctor’s appointment (we all know this can take hours), travel locally or (even more critically) travel abroad. Now you can say “yes” to books and “no” to crying . . .

Berti-Go All the Way

Montreal based Bertigo men’s shirts, have been wildly popular since their introduction. Made of premium Turkish cotton, these shirts scream “winner!” for comfort and style. They have somewhat of a European flair . . . and we know how Europeans have a penchant for dressing with panache.

While hustling through BV the other day, I instantly came to a halt when I noticed this shirt through Strada’s window. What makes a Bertigo shirt unique? Their square buttons, tactically located on the collar and at times placed in groups of two and three on the front of the shirt. Plus, the inner cuffs and collar are designed with prints that peek out ever so discreetly, giving these shirts a certain je ne sais quoi. It is a man’s shirt, but I say ladies can give it a go too!

Zit Remedy

Most of my adult life I’ve suffered with many inconvenient breakouts on my face and back. The pimples seemed to miraculously pop up whenever I had an important event to attend; they also made me self conscious about wearing tank tops or anything backless.

Hundreds of dollars later and a myriad of products under my bathroom sink . . . I finally found clarification! The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash works wonders to control blemishes. My face and back have become mostly zit free zones—very inexpensively I might add. I’m so relieved I can now feel confident this summer in my tanks and summer dresses.
